Firefighter 1 Testing

Updated: Nov 18, 2018

On Tuesday July 17, 2018 the WVRFTC conducted their first ever in-house Firefighter 1 skills testing. Earlier this year the WVRFTC ran a Firefighter 1 Recruit Academy through Los Rios American River College that had 6 recruits, 3 from Yocha Dehe FD and 3 from Woodland FD. The 3 recruits from Yocha Dehe FD, James Bradshaw, Robert Azzolino and Sean Works underwent skills testing in Structural Firefighting, Wildland Firefighting and Hazmat skills that were all evaluated by registered State Fire Training Instructors. All of the recruits passed the skills portion of the FF1 testing and are scheduled to take the new Capstone testing written portion on August 8, 2018 to finalize their certification.

The WVRFTC and ARC are talking about potentially running another Academy next year that would be open to anyone. This would be a beta-test to see what the impact will be on the WVRFTC agencies and the feasibility of making it an annual occurrence. More to come!

James Bradshaw receives some input before conducting one of the Structural firefighting skills.
